Harris Family Connection

Privacy Policy

Effective July 24, 2026

Harris Family Connection is a private, invitation-only platform for members of the Harris family. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We built this for the family, not for advertising — we do not sell your information, and we do not show ads.

Who we are

Harris Family Connection (“the app,” “we,” “us”) is a family-run community platform. Access is limited to Harris family members and people they invite. The app is maintained by family administrators, who are the people responsible for the information described here.

Information we collect

We collect only what the app needs to work:

  • Account details — your name and email address, and a password if you sign up with one. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google; we never receive your Google password.
  • Profile information you choose to add — such as a phone number, mailing or physical address, profile photo, family branch, household, and relationships used to build the family tree. You decide what to fill in. As this is a private family directory, the contact details you add are visible to other signed-in family members.
  • Content you create — posts, comments, stories, photos and videos you upload, event RSVPs, messages you send, and problem reports you submit.
  • Payment information— when online payments are enabled, reunion dues and similar payments are handled by a third-party processor (Stripe or PayPal). Card details are entered on the processor’s own secure page; we never see or store your full card number. We keep a record that a payment was made, its amount, and its status.
  • Basic technical information — the app records the minimum needed to keep it running and secure, such as sign-in sessions and, when you report a problem, the page you were on and your device type so we can fix it.

How we use your information

  • To sign you in and keep your account secure.
  • To show the family directory, tree, events, stories, gallery, and community feed.
  • To deliver messages and notifications about family activity.
  • To process reunion dues and other payments you choose to make.
  • To respond to problem reports and support requests.
  • To keep the app safe — preventing abuse, and keeping an audit record of administrative and financial actions.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.

Information from Google Sign-In

If you choose “Continue with Google,” we ask Google only for your basic profile: your name, email address, and profile picture. We use these to create and identify your account. We do not request access to your Gmail, contacts, calendar, files, or any other Google data. You can review or revoke the app’s access at any time in your Google Account permissions.

How your information is shared

Your information stays within the family. Specifically:

  • Other signed-in family members can see the profile details you add — including contact details (phone, address, email) — in the family directory, along with the content you post to shared spaces such as the feed, gallery, and events.
  • Nobody outside the signed-in family can see any of it.
  • Family administrators can manage members and moderate content.

We rely on a small number of trusted service providers to run the app. They process information only to provide their service to us:

  • Convex— database and backend, where the app’s data and uploaded files are stored.
  • Vercel — website hosting.
  • Google — sign-in, if you use it.
  • Stripe or PayPal — payment processing, when online payments are enabled.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety and rights of the family and its members.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If your account is removed, we delete your profile and personal content, though we may retain limited records where needed — for example, financial transaction history is kept as a permanent, unedited ledger for the family treasurer’s records, and certain administrative audit entries are preserved.

How we protect your information

Access requires signing in, and the whole app is limited to family members. Every request is checked on the server against your permissions. Passwords are stored only in a securely hashed form, and connections use encryption in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Children's privacy

Family children may appear in the family tree and in photos shared by their relatives. Accounts are intended for adults and older family members; a parent or guardian should manage participation for a minor in their household. If you believe a child’s information has been added in a way you’d like changed, contact us and we will help.

Your choices

  • Edit or remove your profile details — including your contact details — at any time from your profile page. If you'd rather not list a phone number or address in the family directory, simply leave those fields blank.
  • Delete content you have posted.
  • Ask a family administrator to remove your account and personal information.
  • Revoke Google Sign-In access from your Google Account settings.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the effective date at the top, and for significant changes we’ll let the family know within the app.
